For all lovers of exotic food the Alresford Indian and Bangladeshi has so much to offer. An incredibly wide range of dishes and a feast of aromatic flavours await the diner. The atmosphere and ambience of the restaurant was very welcoming and relaxing. The service was attentive and polite and our waiter was only to happy too suggest something special from the menu when we requested a truly authentic Indian and Bangladeshi meal. A particular favourite with our party was the Jhinga Jafrani, this award winning jumbo prawn dish infused in a medium spiced sauce was exceptional and left one small problem, who would win the fight for the last prawn?

The helpful suggestions to a vegetarian member of our party were also very well received and she was delighted by the wide range of choices available. Overall the quality and freshness of the food was excellent and the cost very reasonable indeed, we noted that there was an excellent discount for the take away service which was bustling with customers.

So, did the restaurant curry favour with our party? It most certainly did, and a very enjoyable evening was had by all. Our full bellies and satisfied smiles said everything and even better we were not left with a sizeable dent in our wallets!

BALTI DISHES

Our Chef is able to create dishes for all tastes. Balti dishes are cooked with special Balti spices, sauces that are prepared at the restaurant, with sizzling tomatoes and coriander. These dishes are served in a cast iron Kashmiri pan known as the 'Balti' (the bucket). Traditionally eaten with Nan Bread straight out of the pan.

TANDOORI & TIKKA SPECIALITIES

Tandoori is both the way of cooking and also the name of the day oven. Tandoori dishes are first marinated in spiced yoghurt, skewered and cooked in the 'tandoori'. Tikka curries are therefore cooked twice, first as described and then while all the individual spices and sauces are added to create a very special dish.

We entered the restaurant and were greeted with a warm welcome by the owner Mr.Mohammad and were immediately led to our reserved table. Once seated we ordered our drinks from a good range of wines and beers; we ordered several bottles of the obligatory ice cold Cobra beer and a nice bottle of rosé wine. The atmosphere and ambience of the restaurant was very welcoming and relaxing. The sympathetically decorated former Georgian town house exudes character with its original uneven walls and floors, this feature made one of the shorter members of the group feel quite superior with her elevated position at the head of the table.

The service was attentive and polite and our waiter was only to happy too suggest something special from the menu when we requested a truly authentic Indian and Bangladeshi meal. We were informed that all the dishes were prepared from scratch with wonderfully fresh locally sourced ingredients, this became very apparent when the food was brought out! A particular favourite with our party was the Jhinga Jafrani, this award winning jumbo prawn dish infused in a medium spiced sauce was exceptional and left one small problem, who would win the fight for the last prawn?

Another taste delight was the meat shajanee which stood out with its strong aromatic flavours. Our table was plunged into a sudden silence as everyone delved in to the feast of flavours before us. We added a little bit of spice to the meal with the addition of another Chef's special, the garlic chilli chicken which was delightfully hot but not overpowering, it still managed to make the face of one member of party go an interesting shade of red. All of the excellent suggestions from our waiters were thoroughly authentic and made a refreshing change from the usual creamy curry selections that we had eaten in the past. The helpful suggestions to a vegetarian member of our party were also very well received and she was delighted by the wide range of choices available.

Overall the quality and freshness of the food was excellent and the cost very reasonable indeed, we noted that there was an excellent discount for the take away service which was bustling with customers. A word of advice would be to make sure that you phone your order through for take aways as at peak times it can be very busy indeed.
