TOP TEN TIPS TO KEEP
YOUR CAR SAFE |
- Don't display - Never leave anything on display when you
park your car. Even an old coat or a plastic bag can tempt a thief.
- Immobilisers - Electronic engine immobilisers prevent your
car from starting and are the best way to stop thieves.
- Parking - Always use your garage if you have one and lock
both your car and your garage. If you don't have a garage, always try
to park in a well-lit, open place.
- Secure Car Parks - Always try and park your car in an
attended car park or one with CCTV. Look for one which is part of the
police-approved Secured Car Parks Scheme -
www.securedcarparks.com.
- Steering Locks - Use a steering wheel lock every time you
leave your car.
- Car Alarms can deter thieves from not only stealing your
car, but also taking items from it.
- Locking Wheel Nuts - Cheap and easy to fit and stop thieves
from taking your wheels.
- Etching - Have your car registration number or the last 7
digits of your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) etched onto all
windows.
Security Markings Mark all your car equipment, like your car stereo,
with your vehicle registration number.
- Check before buying a car, check with a commercial database
such as HPI Group Ltd, Carwatch UK Ltd in case the car you've got your
eye on has been reported stolen or written off by an insurance
company.

Update from WPC Jane Brookes -
Alresford’s Beat Officer |
|
ALRESFORD CRIME REPORT |
Just an update on a change in policing boundaries. As
from 1/04/04, as well as New and Old Alresford, including Ladycroft and
Tichborne Down, I will be responsible for Bishops Sutton, Tichborne,
Cheriton, Kilmeston, Beauworth, (including Gander Down, and Lane End
Down), Bramdean and Hinton Ampner (including Brockwood Park).
The time of year is coming when historically this area suffers from
thefts of garden equipment and ornaments. Please make sure that sheds
and garages are properly secured. As residents start to open their
windows and doors to the sunshine caution should be exercised to prevent
them from becoming the victim of an opportunist thief.
I have made a comparison of the crime figures since 1st January this
year against the same period last year and am glad to say that the
figures have decreased. For instance the figure for Damage incidents
this year is 12 whereas the year before was 23 and for Non Dwelling
Burglary the figure is now 4 compared to 12. I would like to hope that
this improvement is due to extra vigilance and people being a little
more security conscious, but I can’t say that for sure – except to say
that every little helps. |

ALL LOCAL PCs TO WORK WITH N/W CO-ORDINATORS AND
THE PUBLIC |
Where Police enquiries need to be made following burglaries at private
properties, break-ins to sheds and outbuildings, or where criminal
damage or car crime has occurred, Inspector Steve Sargent has reminded
all local Officers to make contact with N/W Co-ordinators as a matter of
course.
It is realised that valuable local information can always be gained from
the public spirited people who act as Co-ordinators for the Alresford
and District Neighbourhood Watch Association.
The areas involved cover Alresford town, all the surrounding rural
districts, and King's Worthy. Similarly all Neighbourhood Watch members
- which means all householders in these areas - are encouraged to make
contact with the Police if they feel that they have information to
assist detection of crimes or anti-social activity.
Telephone contact with the Police is via 0845 045 45 45 (just ask for
Alresford Police Station), or you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on
0800 555111. |
