NEIGHBOURHOOD POLICE OFFICE OFFICIALLY OPENED
The Alresford Neighbourhood Police Office at Alresford Fire Station, Pound Hill, was officially opened on Tuesday, January 29, by the Police and Crime Commissioner for Hampshire, Mr Simon Hayes, who will be speaking at our AGM on September 26th.
Mr Hayes said: "This example of public services sharing community facilities is one that I am keen to see replicated. The Police and Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service (HFRS) have joined forces to share office space in a bid to offer best value for money to the public and to maintain Police presence in the heart of the community.”

WHERE ARE YOU?
A few months ago an incident in Easton highlighted a problem that is mainly limited to rural areas. The Police work on postcodes when responding to calls, but in a rural area one postcode may cover an area of several square miles.
The public are asked to supply additional information when placing calls in an area where they feel any emergency services may have difficulty finding them. Give a landmark - pub, post or telephone box that will give them sufficient information to locate the property.
Local officers are well aware of their patch, but response vehicles may be called from outside the area and have no local knowledge. Efforts are being made to give them more local knowledge.

BOOMTOWN FESTIVAL – MATTERLEY BOWL
Residents living in Alresford and the surrounding villages may have been caused inconvenience last August as a result of loud music being played until approximately 2.00am on the Sunday night/Monday morning, 12th/13th August (the night of the Olympics Closing Ceremony).
You may not be aware that the playing of music, which was audible in several places including Cheriton, Tichborne and parts of Alresford, was a criminal offence as the music should have stopped at midnight. These licence offences are not prosecuted by the Police but by the local authority; however Winchester City Council decided not to prosecute the licence holder.
There will be another Boomtown Festival between 8th–11th August 2013. Under the licence terms music must cease at midnight on the Sunday night, 11th August. Residents inconvenienced during the Festival, should report it to Winchester City Council and to your District Councillor. The Council should advertise which telephone number(s) to use for complaints and we will endeavour to publicise this number nearer the time, via our e-mail network.
COORDINATOR NEWS
Makins Court is now divided between two Coordinators. Audrey Chalk who recently moved from Windsor Road, looks after some of the residences and Paul Cousins the others. George Clelland has taken over the Drove Watch from Chris Webb. Welcome to them all and our thanks to Chris for his long service to Neighbourhood Watch, both as Committee member and Coordinator.
AGM

Alresford’s Sergeant Mark Lampner
The New Police office in Alresford Fire Station has been good for morale and team-building.
It is a fine example of partnership working to benefit the local community. There has been no difference to the level of Police service provision since the Safer Neighbourhood Team moved, however being based on the main road provides greater visibility in Alresford.
The shared workspace/ equipment/ briefing room can be used by both services e.g. debrief after incident attended by officers from both services.

THEFTS FROM OUTBUILDINGS
Police are advising the following steps to protect property, following a spate of bicycle thefts across Winchester :
- Store all tools and garden equipment in locked sheds and garages
- Secure mowers, bikes etc. to an anchor point within the shed or garage
- Mark all valuable items with postcode
- Record serial numbers with UV pens or forensic marking kits
- Fit a shed alarm / external lighting
- Obscure windows to restrict view of the contents
- Ensure side gates are locked to prevent access to the rear of the property
- Ensure both the outbuilding and garden fences are in good repair
